Dustin grew up in rural Mahaska County outside of New Sharon and graduated from North Mahaska High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in History, Economics, and Social Sciences from Central College in Pella and then graduated from Law School at the University of Iowa. Today he is a Partner at the Heslinga, Dixon & Hite Law Firm where he has a general practice. He has served as the Mayor of New Sharon since 2012 and is the city attorney for several local small towns.
Dustin has a lengthy history of community service. He served on the Mahaska County United Way Board (including stints as President, Vice President, and Treasurer), the Iowa Judicial District 8A Judicial Nominating Commission, and on the North Mahaska School Improvement Advisory Committee. Currently he serves on the Mahaska County Magistrate Nominating Commission, he is the Chairman of the Mahaska County 911 Board, and also serves on the Mahaska County Emergency Management Commission. Dustin and his wife, Kate have two young daughters. The family attends St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. Dustin can be found sitting in the bandstand in the Oskaloosa City Square on Thursday nights where he plays the trombone.
Dustin is running for the Iowa House of Representatives to represent the citizens of District 79, which encompasses western Mahaska County, northeastern Marion County, and the cities of Pella, Oskaloosa, New Sharon, Beacon, University Park, and Leighton.
